How Wendell works

Wendell is built for task paralysis: those moments when you know what to do but can't start. Dump everything in your head, and Wendell turns it into tiny steps, shows you exactly where to start, and celebrates every win. The idea: tap to do, chat to plan.

⭐ Points

Points make finishing feel good the moment it happens, and you spend them on treats you choose. The ⭐ at the top of your board shows what you have to spend; tap it for your rewards.

+10
for every task or step you finish
+5
bonus when it wasn’t on today’s must-dos (🌟 +15 in all)
0
lost for a missed day or a late task. Only Undo takes points back

Your reward shelf: add your own rewards, like ☕ fancy coffee for 100 points or 🎮 a guilt-free gaming hour for 250, and redeem them when you have enough. Spending never lowers your all-time total, and Undo is there if you tap by mistake.

The bonus starts once you’ve picked today’s must-dos: finish your short list, and anything extra gets celebrated. On a shared family board, the points go to whoever finished the task.

Your board

From top to bottom: a small stats strip, the add box, your Today card, what’s coming up, then each of your boards. The Board and Chat tabs stay at the bottom of the screen.

Boards

Your tasks live on boards you name yourself, like Work, Home or Side hustle, each with an icon. You start with one and can add up to 12. With more than one, the tabs at the top show one board at a time. Tap ⋯ on a board to rename it, change its icon, move it up or down, or delete it.

Why it helps: You only see the part of your life you’re in right now, organized the way you think about it.

Board settings

“Weekdays only” makes deadline pacing count Monday to Friday, like a work board. “Shared with family” lets family members you share with see that board.

Why it helps: A work board can follow a work week while home life runs every day, and you decide exactly what your family sees.

Projects with lettered steps

Each big job is a numbered card with bite-sized steps lettered a, b, c. Cards show progress, time logged and the due date. Finished steps fold away. Move a project to another board from its ⋯ menu.

Why it helps: “Clean the kitchen” freezes you; “a) clear the counter, 5 min” doesn’t. Small first steps are the way out of task paralysis. Short codes like 2b name a step on the board and in chat.

Quick to-dos

One-off tasks that aren’t part of a project, listed under each board’s projects, with time estimates, due dates, 🔁 repeats and ⏳ who you’re waiting on.

Why it helps: Small things get somewhere to live without turning into projects. Any to-do can become a project later with “➕ Add steps”.

Stats strip

🌙 how many things are open, ☀️ your wins this week, and 🪐 hours logged this week.

Why it helps: A quick reminder of what you’ve already done, kept small so the page opens on what to do next.

Today and must-dos

The Today card

The first thing on your board: your must-dos, with the first marked “start here”, plus anything due today or overdue, each with a 📌 Do today button. When nothing is planned, it suggests where to start.

Why it helps: Picking where to start is where task paralysis bites hardest. The page opens on the answer, so there’s nothing to decide.

Must-dos

Tap any task and choose 📌 to put it on today’s short list. Move one to the top with “⬆️ Do this one first”, take one off, or clear the list.

Why it helps: A short list you picked yourself is a promise you can keep. Anything beyond it is a bonus.

Waiting on someone

Tell Wendell a task is blocked by someone, like ⏳ waiting on the landlord, with a date to follow up. When that day comes, the task shows “📬 nudge”.

Why it helps: Blocked tasks stop looking like things you’re failing to do, and follow-ups don’t slip through the cracks.

Dates, deadlines and repeats

Due dates

Use 📅 Due when adding a task, in a task’s sheet, or in a project’s ⋯ menu. Pick Today, Tomorrow, In 2 days, Next week, or any day.

Why it helps: Dates are gentle reminders, never warnings. A missed date just says “no stress”.

Coming up

Tomorrow and the day after, then the rest of the week. A small number after each task shows how many days until it’s due, so a task due in 2 days shows a ².

Why it helps: Three named days make the near future concrete, so things don’t sneak up on you.

Deadline pacing

For a project with a due date, Wendell counts the days left and works out today’s share, like “2 of 6 steps today”. Ask in chat what to do today.

Why it helps: A deadline becomes a small daily amount instead of a last-minute panic.

Repeating tasks

Use 🔁 Repeat for daily, weekdays, certain days of the week, or monthly, or tell Wendell “water plants Mondays”. When you finish one, it comes back on its next day. A missed one just moves to today.

Why it helps: Routines don’t need re-adding, and missing one never creates a backlog.

Talking to Wendell

Brain dump box

Type anything into “+ Add or brain dump anything…”, like “Clean the kitchen, break it into steps” or “Send goals to my boss by Friday”. Wendell turns it into projects, steps, to-dos and dates, on the board it fits best.

Why it helps: You type the mess, and the board comes out tidy.

Chat

A conversation with Wendell, the same on every device. Wendell can add, break down, finish and delete tasks, log time, and set today’s must-dos, and adds a 💾 Saved receipt after each change. “Start fresh” clears the chat but keeps your tasks and points.

Why it helps: It’s like having a calm friend sit with you while you work, and the receipts mean what you said really got saved.

How Wendell talks

Never more than two things to do at once. Says how short a task is (“a 3-minute mission”). Never scolds about missed dates. Keeps praise short and tells you how many tasks are left.

Why it helps: A messy house is a practical problem, not a personal failing, and “good enough” counts as done.

One-tap actions

Finish and log time

Tap a task, pick how long it took (or Skip), and it’s crossed off with points. Undo is right there, and you can add more time later.

Why it helps: Finishing takes one tap and a celebration, and logging time shows how long things really take.

Add, rename, move and delete

Add steps or to-dos with a time estimate, 🔁 repeat and 📅 due date. Rename or delete anything, move steps between projects, and move to-dos between boards.

Why it helps: Your board changes as fast as your plans do.

Wins and family

Recent wins and Weekly Wins

Everything you finished in the last 7 days, with time spent and 🌟 bonus marks. Every Friday evening, a 🏆 recap shows your week.

Why it helps: It’s easy to remember what you didn’t do and forget what you did. This keeps your wins in view.

Shared boards

Invite family by email from Profile and switch sharing on. They see your boards marked “Shared with family”, can check things off (and get the points) and add to them, but can’t delete anything.

Why it helps: Household jobs become a team effort without nagging, and whoever helps gets the credit.

Profile and themes

Change your name and password, manage family, switch between 🌸 Groovy and 🌌 Deep Space, and log out. Your board syncs across phone, tablet and laptop.

Why it helps: Your board goes wherever you are.

The ideas behind it

Smaller is better
Big tasks become 5-minute steps, and no more than two at once.
Reward right away
Points, cheers and weekly recaps make every finish feel good.
No shame
Late dates say “no stress”, and “good enough” counts.
Decide less
The Today card opens on where to start, so task paralysis has less to grab onto.
